Tzimmes is traditionally eaten during Rosh Hashanah when one eats sweets, fruits, honey, so that the whole next year will be sweet.
Here is the recipe:
Ingredients:
1 lb. carrots
½ cup sugar
1 cup water
1 cup orange juice
2 tablespoons lemon juice
a handful each of raisins, dried plums, and walnuts
a pinch of salt
½ teaspoon cinnamon
And now for the simple preparation!
Wash, peel, and slice the carrots. Then, cover them with sugar, add water, and cook.
When they start to soften, pour in the orange juice and lemon juice. Add the dried fruits and nuts. Season with cinnamon, add honey, stir, and simmer for a few more minutes.
